NCAA Lax Tournament Update

The Cannons weren’t the only lacrosse going on this past weekend as the NCAA Men’s Division 1 Tournament kicked off.  All 4 ACC Team’s – UNC, Virginia, Duke and Maryland – advanced, with Coach Daye’s alma mater narrowling escaping defeat, edging out Delaware 14-13.  By winning UNC is rewarded with a second round matchup against surging Duke, who destroyed Johns Hopkins 18-5, a Hopkins team that in many minds, didn’t earn their spot in the tournament.

The major story of the young tournament was the big win by Army over defending National Champion Syracuse. Army, in the tournament after winning the Patriot League Automatic berth, bested the #2 seeded Orange with 5 seconds left in the second over-time. You can read more about it here…

Army is now the ultimate cinderella as many are calling their win over the Cuse the biggest upset in tournament history. They’ll face 2009 National Champion runners-up Cornell.

The second round will be played Saturday and Sunday; this time next week we’ll know the Final 4 and the MLL Draft will be just around the corner!
