The only division yet to still play there quarter final playoff games thus far is the Eastern Division 1 confrence. Today the four very exciting division 1 quarter final games will be played. These four games include; Duxbury vs. Marshfield, Billerica vs. Needham, Lincoln-Sudbury vs. Masconomet, and St. John’s Prep vs. Barnstable. Like we said earlier in the week we still predict the powerhouse Duxbury over Marshfield, Billerica over Needham, St. John’s Prep over Barnstable, and Lincoln-Sudbury beating Masconomet.

The rest of the divisions made up for some incredible games.

We went 8 for 13 on our predictions so far.
In the East Division 2 we went 3 for 5 in our predictions. We were correct in expecting North Andover beating Winchester (6-5) Hingham over Catholic Memorial (15-4) and Concord beating Beverly (14-6). We were wrong in predicting Walpole beating Reading. Reading ended up defeating Walpole 9 to 5. Also, we were wrong in predicting Wellesley upsetting Medfield. Medfield went on to win in a tight finish with the final score of 10-9.

In the East Division 3 we went 3 for 4 in our predictions. We were correct in predicting Cohasset defeating Austin Prep (17-1) Dover Sherborn over Hamilton Wenham (10-4) and Weston over Arlington Catholic (6-2). We were wrong in predicting Archbishop Williams over Norwell. Norwell went on to defeat Archbishop Williams 17-6.

Weston High Defeating Westwood in first round 9-7

In the Central Division we were correct in predicting Groton-Dunstable over Wachusett. It was a close fought game but Groton-Dunstable came through in the end winning 8-7. We were incorrect in picking the upset Algonquin over St. John’s. In the end St. John’s cruised through Algonquin winning 11-5.

The West Division brought some very similar hard fought games. The first game we correct in predicting South Hadley over Minnechaug. It was a battle to the end, but South Hadley went on to win 7-6 in double overtime. We were incorrect in predicting West Springfield over Longmeadow. This too was a hard fought game till the end, but Longmeadow went on to win in overtime 7-6.

We look forward to see the outcomes of today’s Eastern Division 1 games .

Duxbury lost their first game and as a result Billerica took over the top spot. But what about St Johns Prep who beat Duxbury? Prep also has 1 loss, to BC High (3-8), how’d that happen?

When I read in the Globe that Duxbury had lost their first game of the season, getting routed by St Johns Prep 12-7, I thought I had drank some of that bad Boston water. But it’s true, and Duxburys path to another State Championship just got a whole lot more interesting.

Ryan Izzo chose to play lacrosse over football in college

A good read in the Globe today on Walpole High’s Ryan Izzo. Izzo is a two sport star in football and lacrosse, getting heavy interest to play both at the college level. Izzo ultimately chose lacrosse, rare for a player to choose lacrosse over another sport, signaling the rise of lax. The story is also an example of how coaches should mentor players facing these types of decisions, as Ryan’s coach Barry Greener is most concerned for his players happiness.

Read about Duxburys thrilling victory over Division 3 Cohasset. A clear under-dog, Cohasset stormed back in the 4th quarter and gave perenial power and undefeated Blue Wave all they could handle.
